Department of Optical and Magnetic Properties of Solids

B.Verkin Institute for Low Temperature Physics and Engineering of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine

Head of the Department:

Professor, Doctor of Sciences, Full member (Academician) of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Mykola F. KHARCHENKO

Brief information.

History of department dates back to established by Boris Ieremievich Verkin laboratory "Electric conductivity and superconductivity" in 1960 with inviting Victor Valentinovich Eremenko as a head of it. Over the years the subject of investigations moved from galvano magnetic effects in metals and photoconductivity and spectroscopy of semiconductors to spectroscopy and magnetooptics of multisublattice magnetically ordered crystals with phase transitions. The experimental investigations of antiferromagnets that were initiated by pioneer works of L.V.Shubnikov as early as in 1930’s and interrupted by his execution in 1937 and subsequent repressions were restored. Nowdays the department is named "Department of optical and magnetic properties of solids" and headed by Mykola Fedorovich Kharchenko since 1986... read more
