An outstanding mathematician A. M. Lyapunov was born on May 25, 1857.
He was a professor of the Kharkov University from 1885 to 1902 until he was elected
to the St.-Petersburg Academy of Sciences.
While working in Kharkov, he obtained fundamental results in stability theory,
mathematical physics, and probability theory.
