Igor Kondratievich Yanson was born on March 18, 1938 in
Kharkov (Ukraine). Graduated (diploma with honor) as a radio physicist
at the Kharkov State University. 1961-1965 - postgraduate course
at the Institute for Low Temperature Physics & Engineering of
the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (ILTPE), Kharkov. In 1963 he
graduated as a pianist (diploma with honor) from Leningrad State
Conservatoire.
Since 1964 I.K.Yanson has been working at the Institute for
Low Temperature Physics & Engineering of the Academy of Sciences
of Ukraine. In 1966 he defended the Ph.D. dissertation. Since
1970 up to now he is the head of the Tunneling Spectroscopy
Laboratory of the ILTPE which was later renamed as the
"Point-Contact Spectroscopy Laboratory". In 1976 I.K.
Yanson defended the dissertation for the doctor of sciences
degree. Since 1978 he is a Professor of Physics at Kharkov State
University in parallel with the main job at the ILTPE. In 1992 he
is elected a full member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
Fields of interest:
Tunneling and Point-Contact Spectroscopy of normal metals,
superconductors, heavy fermions and mixed valence compounds,
semimetals, and semiconductors. Superconductivity, High-Tc
Superconductors, Weak Superconductivity, Heavy-Fermion Systems.
Quantum conductance and mesoscopic effects in ultra small
point-contacts. Conductivity of Point-Contacts in High Magnetic
Fields. Specific interactions between biological molecules.
I.K.Yanson was awarded with different Prizes:
Ukraine Youth Prize on science and technology (1967)
Ukraine State Prize (1980)
"Hewlett-Packard" European Physical Society Prize in
solid state physics for discovery and exploitation of
point-contact spectroscopy in metals (1987)
The Humboldt Research Award (1996)
I.K.Yanson is the author of 4 inventions and 1 discovery. He
